Kessler named interim CEO of Providence Hospitals

COLUMBIA, SC – Providence Hospitals has announced Terrence P. Kessler as its new interim president and CEO as of Jan. 1, 2015. In this role, Kessler will provide direct oversight of Providence Hospital, Providence Orthopedic Hospital and the associated rehabilitation and physician practices.
Kessler will also remain president and CEO of Providence’s parent corporation, the Sisters of Charity Health System. The health system includes five faith-based hospitals, three grant-making foundations, two eldercare facilities and six outreach organizations in Ohio and South Carolina.
“Terry has intimate knowledge of Providence and knows the significant achievements made over the past year. Terry will ensure the positive momentum of Providence continues,” said Michael Kapp, board chair of Providence Hospitals.

Prior to becoming president and CEO of the Sisters of Charity Health System in 2013, Kessler served as its general counsel. Kessler served on the board of directors of the Sisters of Charity Health System from 1998 to 2012, including as board chair from 2006 to 2012.
Kessler earned a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and his law degree from The Ohio State University College of Law.
