Kevin Stiens named new Director of Parks and Recreation for Spartanburg County

Kevin Stiens has officially stepped into the role of Director of Parks and Recreation for Spartanburg County. He joined the department on Monday, January 11th. Stiens comes to Spartanburg County from the City of Greenville’s Parks and Recreation Department where he served as their Business Administrator since 2011. In this role, he managed budget, procurement, personnel, and capital construction. Before 2011, Stiens worked as the Assistant Parks and Grounds Administrator for the City of Greenville from 2006-2011. Prior to his comprehensive role in Greenville, Stiens served in Parks and Recreation roles in Jackson County, NC, as Cashiers Recreation Director and in the City of Hickory, NC, as Senior Recreation Programmer. Spartanburg County Administrator Katherine O’Neill feels Stiens will be a good fit, “We are very excited that Kevin is joining our team. He is known across the state for his abilities in Parks and Recreation, and also for his focus on building partnerships.”

Stiens holds a Masters of Public Administration from Clemson University, and a Bachelor of Science in Parks and Recreation Management from Western Carolina University. He is a 2012 graduate of National Parks and Recreation Director’s School and holds various certifications in the field of Parks and Recreation. He and his family (wife, Ashley and daughters Riley (7) and Molly (4)) will be relocating to Spartanburg County. Stiens says he is ready to keep the momentum going in Spartanburg, “I am very excited about this fantastic opportunity with Spartanburg County. I look forward to working with a great team and community.”
