Krystal Klear Productions will host a cultural heritage event to celebrate Black History Month
February 19, 2025For its fifth year, Krystal Klear Productions will be hosting its Black History Soul Meet and Eat on Saturday, March 1, 2025 from 12:00-4:00 p.m. at The Connection @ Hope’s Treasure Chest (1528-B Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412). Attendees can enjoy Lowcountry eats, networking, expressive art forms, vendors, black history trivia, prizes, and a black history basket giveaway, which will consist of items centered around black history and from local black-owned businesses.
This year’s featured artists are Kae Glass Music, Antwonn Gathers, Akua Page, and Wona Womalan West African Drum & Dance Ensemble. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 6-17, and free for children ages 5 and under. Children admissions include a black history activity book while supplies last. The books contain coloring pages, educational activities, and bios about historical African American figures. This family-friendly event is purposed to celebrate Black History Month by showcasing African American or black artists, businesses, and culture by highlighting Lowcountry foods, edutaining through trivia, and more. It is suggested that attendees wear casual African attire but is not required. The featured artists represent different generations and artistic backgrounds.
Kae Glass of Kae Glass Music is a songstress whose favorite music genres are gospel and jazz. Attendees enjoyed her soulful presence through song so much last year that she is back as a featured artist by popular demand. Antwonn Gathers is a visual artist who specializes in acrylic painting and Prismacolor portraits of athletes. He is also an award-winning celebrity barber with more than 25 years of experience, CEO of The Artistry of Barbering, which is the first combined art gallery and barbershop in the Charleston area that incorporates barbering and visual art. He is a barber instructor, founder, director, and CEO of Carolina Classic Hair and Fashion Show, and mentors young boys on barbering and entrepreneurship. Antwonn will develop a live visual art creation centered on black history during the event. Akua Page is a Gullah Geechee storyteller, educator, and tour guide and the author of Gullah Geechee Adventures: Hoodoo Magick Book 1. She will share Gullah Geechee folklore and educate attendees on the culture. As a featured artist from previous years, Wona Womalan West African Drum & Dance Ensemble will provide an interactive drum and dance finale performance with audience participation.
A portion of event proceeds will benefit EC Youth’s L.E.E.L. (Learn Earn, Earn Learn) Program. Through this program, Founder Pleshette Grant teaches children ages 17 and under financial literacy through entrepreneurship, character building, and provides money-making and educational opportunities. Krystal Klear Productions Founder and CEO Krystal Yeadon stated “I have a true heart and passion for children, entrepreneurship, education, and the arts, so giving back to this organization through the Black History Soul Meet & Eat and Krystal Klear Kares, the giveback branch of my company, allows me to intertwine all of these aspects in a unique and eventful way.”
