Lander University Closed Until Thursday, October 10

October 3, 2024

Due to the ongoing impacts of Hurricane Helene, Lander University’s campus will remain closed until Thursday, Oct. 10. All classes, activities and sporting events are canceled during the closure.

This closure applies to students and all non-essential employees. Do not return to campus until the University announces it is safe to do so.
A decision regarding reopening and classes resuming for the rest of the week will be announced on Monday, Oct. 7.
Assignments and coursework due during the closure will be postponed, with students allowed reasonable time to complete those assignments once classes resume.

The closure has been extended for the safety of our students, faculty and staff, as well as to ensure the University has enough resources available to accommodate the students who could not return home. While progress has been made, there are still multiple buildings without power or full utilities. Additionally, there are many hazards and maintenance issues that must be addressed before opening campus. This additional time is necessary for university teams to identify and resolve those issues appropriately. Most importantly, local and state inspections and approvals will need to take place prior to us officially reopening.

Lander students and employees should continue to monitor Lander email and the website FAQ for important updates as they develop. Continuous updates are also available at www.lander.edu/alert.
