Laurens County Cancer Association Launches “Fueling Hope” Campaign

September 2, 2025

The Laurens County Cancer Association (LCCA) has announced the launch of its newest initiative, Fueling Hope, a campaign designed to ease one of the greatest challenges facing cancer patients in our community—transportation to and from treatment.

Every mile matters when you’re fighting cancer. For too many of our neighbors, the cost of getting to life-saving treatments adds another layer of stress during an already difficult journey. Currently, LCCA serves 206 Laurens County residents and growing. Patient appointments outside the county range from once a month to as many as 15 times a month, resulting in an average of $10,000 spent each month on fuel assistance alone.

Through Fueling Hope, the LCCA is raising $5,000 by the end of 2025 to help sustain this critical need. Each $20 donation provides a fuel card covering one round-trip to treatment. Donors are also encouraged to become Hope Sustainers by making a monthly gift of $25 or more, ensuring that the community’s “fuel tank” remains full all year long. Best of all, 100% of donations stay right here in Laurens County.

Anna Drew Miller, Director of the Laurens County Cancer Association, emphasized the importance of the campaign:
“Transportation should never be the reason someone misses their cancer treatment. Through Fueling Hope, we can make sure our neighbors have one less barrier to care. Every dollar fills the tank with comfort, care, and hope—and together, we can keep hope moving forward.”

The Laurens County Buzz has made a donation of $50 to kick off the effort and challenges other businesses and individuals to do the same.

Community members are invited to join the campaign today and help keep hope on the move. Donations can be made securely at Fueling Hope Donation Page.
