December 23, 2024

On Wednesday, December 18, the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce marked the grand opening of The Connection Point at the United Way of Laurens County with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony. This innovative new computer lab, funded through a SC Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW) grant, promises to be a transformative resource for the community, offering free access to computers and Wi-Fi along with critical career support services.

Located at the United Way of Laurens County, The Connection Point is designed to bridge the digital divide for individuals who may lack access to technology, reliable internet, or computer skills. The lab offers resources to assist individuals with filing for unemployment, applying for jobs, and exploring career development opportunities.

“This is a significant addition to our community,” shared Amanda Benfield, President and CEO of the Laurens County Chamber. “The Connection Point addresses a vital need by providing tools and support that can help residents achieve their employment and career goals.”

The computer lab is particularly beneficial for those who may not have access to local libraries or other technology hubs. It provides a welcoming environment for individuals to gain confidence in using technology and accessing essential online resources. Benfield expressed excitement about the positive impact this new initiative will have, highlighting how it aligns with broader efforts to support economic development and enhance community resources.

The Connection Point is now open and ready to serve residents. For more information, visit the United Way of Laurens County or contact their office for details on lab hours and available services.
