Laurens County Council Advances Two Major Economic Development Projects

November 11, 2025

At Monday night’s Laurens County Council meeting, members welcomed newly appointed Laurens County Administrator Jerre Threatt, who officially began his role on November 3 following his appointment in October. Threatt was in attendance as the Council moved forward on several significant economic development items.

Council unanimously approved the appointment of Sherie Gordon to the Upper Savannah Workforce Board, which serves employers and job seekers across Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry, and Saluda counties.

Two major projects received Council support:

Project Floyd
Council unanimously approved the Project Floyd Inducement Agreement. Project Floyd represents a $63.8 million investment in Laurens County and will create 15 new jobs. Council also approved, on first reading and by title only, a Fee-in-Lieu-of-Tax (FILOT) agreement for the project. In addition, Council approved an ordinance on first reading to amend the Multi-County Industrial Park agreement at Hunter Industrial Park to include Project Floyd.

Project IPE
Council unanimously approved, on first reading and by title only, an inducement agreement for Project IPE, a new company purchasing the former Michelin facility in the Octagon Industrial Park in Gray Court. Project IPE plans a $93 million investment and is expected to create 126 new jobs.

These actions reflect the County’s continued focus on economic growth, workforce development, and expanding employment opportunities across Laurens County.
