Laurens County Hiring Director of Building Codes

Laurens County Government is seeking a qualified professional to serve as Director of Building Codes, a leadership position responsible for ensuring construction across the county meets safety standards and regulatory requirements.

The full-time role oversees inspections, plan reviews, code enforcement, and department staff. The director works closely with contractors, developers, business owners, and residents to ensure compliance with building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, housing, and fire codes.

Responsibilities include investigating complaints, issuing corrective actions or stop-work orders when necessary, maintaining records, and preparing reports. The position may also serve as the county’s Floodplain Manager if assigned.

Candidates must have experience in construction and code enforcement, including supervisory experience. Certification as a Licensed Building Official through the South Carolina Building Code Council is required, along with a valid South Carolina driver’s license. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

The position offers an annual salary of approximately $68,910 and includes a comprehensive benefits package through the state PEBA system.
