Laurens County Museum Reflects on a Landmark 2024 and Looks Ahead to 20th Anniversary in 2025

January 1, 2025

The Laurens County Museum celebrated a remarkable 2024, filled with achievements that highlighted its growing role as a community hub for history, education, and cultural engagement. With 4,200 hours of volunteer time logged, the museum’s dedicated team played a pivotal role in making the year’s successes possible.

A Year of Highlights
Throughout 2024, the museum welcomed 4,000 visitors from 97 South Carolina towns, 32 states, and even two countries. The Magnolia Room, a sought-after event space, hosted 6,000 guests for a variety of gatherings, showcasing the museum as more than just a historical site but also a vibrant community venue.

Educational programming was at the heart of the museum’s mission, featuring:

  • Seven new exhibits.
  • Eleven Revolutionary War lectures by Durant Ashmore.
  • Twelve educational history lectures by guest speakers.
  • Four lunch-and-learn events.
  • Twenty-four school field trips and special tours.

The museum also stepped into the national spotlight, hosting two state conferences and cementing its reputation as a premier historical institution in South Carolina.

A Bright Future: Revolutionary War Exhibit and Major Grant
As the year drew to a close, the museum received exciting news: an $81,000 grant from the South Carolina American Revolution Sestercentennial Commission. This funding will support the creation of a Revolutionary War exhibit, set to open on Carolina Day, June 28, 2026. The interactive display will feature original art by Jorge Rubio Perez and highlight Laurens County’s role in pivotal battles and its diverse historical groups.

The museum will dedicate much of 2025 to preparing this exhibit, ensuring it becomes a landmark attraction for residents and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead: 20 Years of History
Next year marks the museum’s 20th anniversary, a milestone that will be celebrated with special events and programs throughout 2025. Connie Post, the museum’s administrator, encourages the community to stay connected via Facebook and Instagram for updates on these exciting activities.

A Message of Gratitude
Connie Post expressed her gratitude on behalf of the museum’s board, staff, and volunteers: “We are so grateful for your support of the Laurens County Museum. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of our community. We look forward to celebrating our 20th year with you in 2025.”

The Laurens County Museum continues to honor its mission of preserving and sharing the rich history of Laurens County while creating opportunities for learning and connection. With big plans on the horizon, 2025 promises to be another banner year for this cherished community institution.
