January 4, 2026The Laurens County Republican Party recognized Danny Verdin with its inaugural Chairman’s Choice Award during the party’s holiday dinner held Thursday, December 18, in the Magnolia Room of the Laurens County Museum.
Members and guests gathered for the December celebration, which featured a catered dinner and musical entertainment by Kipper Ackerman, along with Bob and Amy Link. The evening concluded with a lively, group-led rendition of “Deck the Halls,” as attendees joined together in the spirit of the season.
LCRP Chair Valerie Jones shared seasonal reflections and offered a positive look back on a year marked by growth and engagement. She noted expanded visibility and outreach across Laurens County, including hosting a presence at community events through the party’s event tent, strengthening connections with residents, and welcoming new members. Throughout the year, the party emphasized fellowship, involvement, and relationship-building while continuing efforts to grow membership and awareness of its mission.
During the year, the Laurens County Republican Party also hosted several state and national leaders, including Alan Wilson, Curtis Loftis, Pamela Evette, and Ralph Norman, along with members of the local legislative delegation.
Jones acknowledged the service of party members who currently hold public office and leadership roles, including Councilmen Justin Lane, Jeff Carroll, and Matthew Brownlee; Vice Chair Nick Babb, who also serves as chair of the Lakelands Young Republicans; and Rick Shealy, State Executive Committeeman. Appreciation was also extended to Secretary/Treasurer Tracy Babb for her leadership and organizational support throughout the year.
The centerpiece of the evening was the presentation of the Chairman’s Choice Award, also referred to as Legislator of the Year. The award honors a member of the local legislative delegation who exemplifies conservative principles, accessibility to constituents, and consistent support of the Laurens County Republican Party. Senator Verdin, who has served more than two decades in the South Carolina General Assembly, was recognized for his longstanding commitment to Laurens County and his dedication to faith, freedom, and family.
The celebration concluded with the annual Jingle Bell Raffle, which included four trips as grand prizes, along with additional prizes such as a Blackstone grill, a food dehydrator, and gift cards from local merchants.
