Laurens County Touchdown Club Names Garrett Murphy as Player of the Week for Standout Performance in Playoff Victory

The Laurens County Touchdown Club is proud to announce that for games played on November 8th, the Player of the week is running back, linebacker and senior captain Garrett Murphy of Laurens Academy.
Murphy is the senior running back, linebacker, captain and all purpose player for the Laurens Academy Crusaders as they defeated Cross Schools in the first round of the SCISA playoffs by a score of 56 – 22. LA will play Jefferson Davis Academy in Blackville, SC this Friday night.
Garrett Murphy is a Laurens Academy senior for the Crusaders who rushed for 141 yards on six carries and two touchdowns. Murphy also had one catch for 66 yards and a touchdown on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively, Murphy had four total tackles and one forced fumble.
Head Coach Jolly Doolittle stated, “Garrett is everything a coach expects of a captain. He is a 360 degree leader. He is a great football player and an even better young man.”
The Laurens County Touchdown Club will honor Murphy on November 21st at the bi-monthlyTouchdown Club meeting. The meeting will be at noon at The Ridge in Laurens. Player of the Week awards is presented by Farm Bureau Insurance of Laurens County in 2024.
The November 21st meeting will be the annual South Carolina and Clemson University Touchdown Club meeting celebration with Chet Tucker-USC chief sideline reporter and Don Munson-voice of the Clemson Tigers, as our featured speakers. The Farm Bureau Insurance “Player of the Week’ awards will be presented for the November 1, 8 and 15 High School football games as well.
The Laurens County Touchdown Club meets every other Thursday throughout the football season at The Ridge located in Laurens at 301 Exchange Road and the public is invited. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $15. All meetings are at Noon with the food service line opening at 11:45 am. Whiteford’s of Laurens will be catering the meal on November 21st.
