Laurens Police Department Adds Administrative Assistant

October 5, 2022

Chief Grounsell and the Laurens Police Department welcome the newest member of the team, Margaret Ruse, who is the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police and a Class 3 Police Officer.

Ruse has served in other public safety and emergency service roles over the last 36 years and brings a wealth of knowledge with her to this role.

Public service seems to be in her DNA. Ruse started working at the age of 16 as a junior firefighter. At the age 18, she became a certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). As an EMT she followed in her parents’ footsteps and was able to run ambulance and fire department calls with both of them.

Most of her years in emergency services (28 of her 36) were spent in dispatch and law enforcement. She has accomplished many things over the years, but some of her highlights are being a Center Manager Certifier Professional (CMCP), South Carolina Telecommunications Emergency Response Task Force (TERT) leader, Event coordinator for NNO, Class 3 police officer, TAC for several years, certified Communications Training Officer (CTO), and more.

Ruse spent several years in supervisory roles, to include running dispatch for police, fire and EMS in Simpsonville. She also served as the desk Sergeant for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. In addition, she has worked an array of positions for the following agencies: Spartanburg E911, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), Mauldin City PD, Simpsonville Police Department, and the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

Welcome to the team!
