Law school among top in nation on professors, quality of life

The Charleston School of Law is in the nation’s top 10 law schools for having best professors and offering a high quality of life for students, according to a new ranking by The Princeton Review.
“These new top rankings confirm what we set out to do a year ago – return the energy and vigor that the school had when it started and highlight the incredibly collegial and close relationships between our students and faculty members,” said President Ed Bell, who took over management of the school in October 2015.
The school ranked ninth best for having the best law professors and had the fourth best quality of life among America’s 200 law schools, the Review said.
“Our students tell us how much they appreciate the openness of our professors and how they are approachable, helpful and nurturing in the study of law,” Bell said. “It’s also significant that we have the fourth best quality of life among the 200 law schools in the country.
“The Charleston School of Law is moving in an exciting new direction and we’re all having fun being part of something special.”
Bell said more evidence of the school’s reinvigorated trajectory is shown in the number of students who matriculated in August. The class that entered the law school in fall 2016 included 200 new students, more than double the class that started a year earlier.
“The proof is in the pudding,” Bell said. “We’re committed to our students. Once prospective students learned how we offer an approach to law school that is a little different than when I went to law school, they were attracted to learn more about us and that, in turn, led to more applications, acceptances and students.”
Bell, a nationally-known litigator who practices in Georgetown, S.C., said The Princeton Review’s ratings confirmed the school’s forward progress and energy with new offerings, such as a new clinics program that is getting national attention.
“Over the last year, we’ve worked hard to tell our story around the region to share our renewed commitment to stability and long-term progress,” said Bell, who also is an owner of the popular Garden and Gun magazine.
