LCSD 56 Summer Reading Olympic Camp Winners Announced
August 4, 2021Summer reading is always emphasized and encouraged for students and Laurens County School District 56 makes summer reading fun.
In keeping with the summer Olympics, the theme of this year’s summer reading program was the Olympics. As such, students were educated on the various events that take place during the Olympics and also got the chance to participate in Olympic type activities during PE class.

“We wanted them to strive to be “Olympic Readers” in their own right and they all put forth the effort to accomplish that feat,” said Marcus Porter, Camp Counselor/Camp Administrator.
Students were able to earn “Kindness Cash” during the Summer Reading Program by being kind, helping others, leading in the classroom, being present daily, and having great behavior. The Kindness Cash was collected daily and placed into a drawing at the conclusion of the program.
Two winners were recognized at the end of the program, and each received a new bicycle. The bikes represented the Olympic Cycling Team and also served as a source of daily motivation for the students. They knew they could put forth their best effort daily and work towards earning a bike at the completion of the program.
The “gold medal” winners of this year’s program were Hope Cunningham and Kayden Conway (pictured below). Congrats to them!
