Leadership Columbia Class of 2012 Recognized by Free Medical Clinic With Outstanding Organization Legacy Award

November 19, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – November 19, 2012 – The Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that the Leadership Columbia Class of 2012 was recognized by The Free Medical Clinic of Columbia’s board of directors with the Outstanding Organization Award. They were honored last Thursday, Nov. 15, during The Free Medical Clinic’s Doctors Lounge fundraising event at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.

This distinction was given as part of the Legacy Award series, which recognizes those whose contributions have enabled The Free Medical Clinic to accomplish its mission to provide quality health care, at no cost, to those in the community who cannot afford it.

The Leadership Columbia Class of 2012 selected The Free Medical Clinic as their community service project with the goal of refurbishing the clinic space and collecting needed supplies and funds to help the operation of the center. Renovations began Jan., 2012, and over the course of the project the class provided more than 1,500 hours of services, raised more than $12,000 for supplies and $30,000 for facility improvements. The class also assisted the clinic in securing new community partnerships, suppliers and medical volunteers.

We are very pleased to be able to recognize the tremendous contributions of last year’s Leadership Columbia class, said Dennis Coker, director of the Free Medical Clinic.

We are extremely proud of this group, said Ike McLeese, president and CEO of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce. Their honorable efforts are sure to have a lasting impact on our community and we appreciate this acknowledgment from The Free Medical Clinic.
