LeadingAge South Carolina Recognizes 2014 Award of Honor Recipient

Dr-Thomas-E.-BrownCOLUMBIA, SC – May 7, 2014 – LeadingAge South Carolina recognized Dr. Thomas E Brown, President/CEO, Lutheran Homes of South Carolina with the 2014 Award of Honor. The prestigious award recognizes an individual who has a made a unique and/or exceptional contribution to LeadingAge South Carolina and their work has impacted the industry of aging services with excellence.

Dr. Brown has over forty years’ experience in health care management, organizational development, health care systems development and financing, health policy analysis and aging and long term care research. His lifelong career emphasis has held service to older adults, long-term care, Medicare and Medicaid at the forefront. At Lutheran Homes, Brown oversees operations of five continuing care retirement communities – Franke at Seaside, Mt. Pleasant; the Heritage at Lowman, White Rock; Rice Estate, Columbia ; RoseCrest, Inman and Trinity on Laurens, Aiken; as well as Lutheran Hospice and BeWell Home Services.

Dr. Brown’s experience and knowledge of how to navigate through the long-term care field and address the needs of seniors are exceptional. As a public policy and process expert, Dr. Brown led the re-establishment of the LeadingAge SC public policy committee by serving as its Chairperson. He recognized the need to support the Association and led the Committee to work together to identify the issues, develop solutions and to advocate on behalf of older South Carolinians.

In this rapidly changing environment of health care, both nationally and in South Carolina, individuals with Dr. Brown’s vision and organizational leadership are critical. The field of long-term care greatly benefits from Dr. Brown, a person who understands and believes in the future of aging services and supports.
