Leaphart Elementary receives national recognition
December 22, 2014IRMO, SC – A Lexington-Richland District Five school is one of nearly 100 schools nationwide being recognized for exceptional student achievement in 2014.
Leaphart Elementary School has been named a National Title I Distinguished School. The national program publicly recognizes schools for the outstanding academic achievements of their students. Leaphart Elementary received an “Excellent” growth rating and “Good” absolute rating on this year’s state report card. The engineering magnet school also received an “A” rating on the federal accountability system, and it earned a Palmetto Silver award for 2013-2014.
Leaphart Elementary Principal Kelly Brown said, “We are honored to be selected for such a prestigious designation. A recognition like this would not be possible without the work and commitment of our teachers, staff members, students, and families all working together to ensure the academic success of all our students.”
The National Title I Distinguished Schools Program has been in place since 1996, showcasing the success of hundreds of schools in one of two categories: (1) Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years and (2) closing the achievement gap between students.
