Lenovo creates Winter Wonderland for Boys & Girls Club

November 13, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – When Lenovo heard about the historic flood they reached out to our local Boys & Girls Club to see how they could help.  The result is a caravan of 50 volunteers from Raleigh ascending on the Norman Arnold Boys & Girls Club on Monday to perform an extreme makeover of the flooded space AND create a winter wonderland for the members of the Club.  The children will arrive on Monday to a Winter Wonderland experience that begins with their very own sledding hill made up of 15 tons of manufactured snow.

Upon entering their club they will experience a freshly renovated games room with new air hockey, foosball and pool tables; a technology center with 17 new Lenovo computers three flat screen TVs with x-box systems; and a learning center.  And, if that weren’t enough, Christmas is coming early with each participant receiving their own Lenovo tablet.

“Lenovo’s generosity is over whelming,” said Carter Clark, President/CEO Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands.  “Many of our members and their families were impacted by the floods which has made this past month very difficult.  Knowing that people care enough to do all this for them means al lot.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs has been operating in Rosewood in partnership with the City of Columbia Parks & Recreation Department for over 20 years, currently serving over 100 youth weekly. “The kids just love it here,” says June Booth, Club Director.  “They get help with school work, learn about leadership and character development, do arts, play sports, access the computer lab and have fun.”

“This project is one more example of the public-private partnership between the The City of Columbia and Boys & Girls Clubs that has been successfully helping thousands of area children, and benefiting the community at no additional cost to tax payers” says Councilman Moe Baddourah.
