Leonard Price Friend of Law Enforcement Award Call For Nominations

August 20, 2014

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC – The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Foundation (KCSF) Board of Directors is accepting 2014 nominations for the “Leonard Price Friend of Law Enforcement Award.”  The award was established in 2012 to recognize the support of Kershaw County residents for the Sheriff’s Office. The award was named after the late Mr. Leonard L. Price, a former resident of the North Central area of Kershaw County who invested heavily in supporting law enforcement.

“When the public supports law enforcement, everyone wins,” said Rajena Miles, Chair of the KCSF Board.  “Here in Kershaw County recently, many in our community have really stepped up to help our Sheriff’s Office. We want to thank and honor them.”

The 2013 recipient was Kershaw County educator, Kevin Rhodes, who serves as Director of the Safe Schools/Healthy Students program, funded by a federal grant, which was written in response to a gang-related death in 2007.  While crime prevention is hard to measure, Rhodes has made a meaningful difference in helping students stay safe and avoid crime.  He also initiated a program to provide mentoring for at-risk youth.

“We are looking for public input for our 2014 honoree,” said Kim Durant, Vice Chair of the KCSF Board and the daughter of former Kershaw County Sheriff Jerry Horton.  “We hope people will take the time to nominate those in our community who strongly support the men and women who serve and protect us.”
