Leslie Latimer, Greenville First Steps, receives award

GREENVILLE, SC -Leslie Roper Latimer, MSW, Director of Operations for Greenville First Steps, was the recent recipient of the Time for Children Award during the 2015 Greenville County Childcare Association’s annual conference.

Latimer was recognized for her more than twelve years of service in Greenville and as an advocate for children and childcare providers in our community. Through her work at Greenville First Steps and on the board of the Greenville County Childcare Association, Leslie is tirelessly working to improve the lives of children.

“She is constantly looking for ways to improve our work, to strengthen the quality of work being done in the classrooms, but also to help hold up the childcare sector as a powerful and important component of a vibrant learning community. She pushes childcare providers to improve classroom instruction, but also pushes the community to invest more in professional develop and learning opportunities.” Susan Kear, president of Greenville County Childcare Association, noted.

Derek Lewis, Executive Director of Greenville First Steps was not surprised Leslie received the Time for children award. “Leslie epitomizes dedication. She works tirelessly to increase the quality of childcare providers.”

Latimer received her bachelor’s degree in social work from Winthrop University and her master’s degree in social work from the University of South Carolina.

 

About the Time for Children Award

The Time for Children Award is presented each year by the Greenville County Childcare Association to a person in Greenville County who exemplifies and advocates for the care and concern for children while working to increase the quality, availability, and access to training opportunities for childcare providers. The Greenville County Childcare Association is a local non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote and encourage quality childcare in Greenville County. It has been in existence for over 25 years and provides training, coordination, communication, peer support, and fellowship to area childcare professionals in Greenville County.
