Lexington District One announces new NPES assistant principal
August 29, 2022On August 23, 2022, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Jennie S. King to assistant principal of New Providence Elementary School.
King returns to NPES from Deerfield Elementary School, where she has served as the school’s literacy coach since 2021.
An experienced educator of 23 years, King first stepped into the classroom in 1997 as a kindergarten and second grade teacher at State Bridge Crossing Elementary School in Fulton County School System in Atlanta, GA. In 2002, she moved to Settles Bridge Elementary School in Forsyth County Schools in Suwanee, GA, to teach kindergarten and first grade. King moved to South Carolina in 2006, joining Richland School District Two to teach kindergarten at Bookman Road Elementary School.
In 2010, King served as an adjunct professor and supervisor with the University of South Carolina College of Education. In 2011, she moved back to Georgia to teach kindergarten at Haw Creek Elementary in Forsyth County Schools. King then taught American literature and composition at Lambert High School in Forsyth County Schools in 2013.
King joined the Lexington District One family in 2014, teaching kindergarten and second grade at Meadow Glen Elementary School. In 2017, she served as a virtual kindergarten, first and third grade teacher at NPES before transitioning to DES.
With a Bachelor of Arts in English and American history from Birmingham-Southern College, King earned a Master of Arts in early childhood education from University of Alabama and a Master of Education in educational administration from University of South Carolina. She holds a Tier 1 Elementary School Principal and Early Childhood Education certification, is a South Carolina 4.0 Evaluator and a South Carolina Teacher Mentor, and earned Literacy Coach, Literacy Teacher, and Gifted and Talented endorsements.
She is a member of the National School Reform Faculty, the Association for Childhood Education International and the National Association for the Education of Young Children. She is also a former Lexington District One Teacher of the Year.
