Lexington District One graduates outperform state on ACT

Data from ACT’s annual Condition of College and Career Readiness Report shows that Lexington County School District One continues to test above the state average. The report, released by the South Carolina Department of Education, includes scores for students who were seniors during the 2016–2017 school year.
South Carolina’s average ACT score increased from 18.5 in 2016 to 18.7 in 2017, while Lexington District One’s score held steady at 19.9 out of a possible 36. Seventeen states require all students to take the assessment, with an average score of 19.8.
Among South Carolina school districts, Lexington District One ranked third with an average score of 19.9.
Lexington District One students scored well above the state average in all four subject areas tested. Students averaged 20.5 in reading, 20.2 in science, 19.7 in mathematics and 18.6 in English.
Additionally, students’ scores increased in every subject area with the exception of English. The average English scored dipped slightly from 18.9 in 2016 to 18.6 in 2017.
Sixty-seven more Lexington District One graduating seniors took the exam in 2017 than during the previous year.
