Lexington Medical Center Foundation Host Awards Presentation for Healthcare Scholarship Recipients

LEXINGTON, SC – For more than 20 years, the Lexington Medical Center Foundation has cared for the future of healthcare by providing scholarships to students who have been accepted into nursing or other healthcare programs. This program is one way the Foundation supports the hospital’s commitment to providing quality health care to the community.
In fiscal year 2013, the Foundation provided more than $140,000 in nursing scholarships to students. This year, due to increasing education costs, the Foundation Board of Directors recognized a need to increase the Foundation’s support of healthcare scholarships and elected to increase the contribution amount to $236,000. This amount was distributed to 46 applicants, of which the majority will be seeking Bachelor’s degrees.

Supporting this program is an important part of our mission to ensure that high-quality healthcare is available for all people of the Midlands.” Tim James, vice president and executive director of the Lexington Medical Center Foundation.
This year’s recipients were treated to a special awards luncheon on Friday, July 25th, at which Mrs. Marie Bridges, previous scholarship recipient and retired midwife, spoke to them and their families. Mrs. Bridges spoke about the effects of the Healthcare Scholarship program on her career, and the responsibility she feels to pay it forward. She encouraged other to do the same by taking the time to share healthcare knowledge with future generations or by investing in the Lexington Medical Center Scholarship program.
