Lexington Two’s adult education graduates celebrate milestone
May 22, 2024About 150 students are graduating with GEDs and high school diplomas from Lexington Two’s adult education program, and many of them walked in a graduation ceremony Tuesday night at the Lexington Two Performing Arts Center.
Families, friends, district educators, board members, and Superintendents Dr. Brenda Hafner of Lexington Two and Dr. Robert Maddox of Lexington Four gathered to celebrate the graduates. This year’s class members are heading off to career, college, professional training, and military service.
“The adult education staff members are so proud of our students and their accomplishments,” said Christy Henderson, director of the award-winning adult education program. “Many of our students juggle family and work obligations along with their school work. The perseverance and determination in our students makes us work harder for them.”
The Lexington Two adult education program, which operates in conjunction with Lexington Four, includes a number of classes — all free or with a nominal registration fee — for students who left school without a diploma. In addition to GED preparation and high school diploma completion, the adult education program offers academic refresher and a popular English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Once students finish the adult education program, there is additional support, including a College and Career Navigator (CCN) who will assist students in transitioning from the adult education program to either a post-secondary education option or career placement.
“The adult education program is an integral part of our communities’ workforce development,” Henderson said. “When a student earns a high school credential they either move into the workforce or into college or a training program, and this in turn strengthens our families and communities.”
The next adult education session will begin in August. Registration for the 2024-2025 school year will begin on Monday, July 22, 2024.
