EngenuitySC’s annual celebration of our region’s economic competitiveness brings together the best and brightest business, entrepreneurial and creative minds in the Midlands. The event will be held at The Zone at Williams Brice Stadium from 5:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 and is once again a part of Global Entrepreneurship Week in Columbia, S.C.
Each of the speakers for Ignite! 2014 were chosen to correlate with EngenuitySC’s five indicators of economic competitiveness. Speakers include Jeff Archie, Senior Vice President of SCANA and Senior Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer of SCE&G, for industry clusters; Andrew Askins, CEO and Co-founder of Krit and University of South Carolina student, for entrepreneurship; Maria Fabrizio, Illustrator, designer and creator of Wordless News, for innovation; and Michelle Brooke-Marciniak, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of SHEEX and former WNBA athlete, for talent. The fifth speaker, representing livability, will be announced soon.
Ignite! is a signature event that brings together new media, technology and business leaders, innovators, students and entrepreneurs to celebrate forward-thinking economic development in the Midlands. In addition to short, engaging presentations, guests will enjoy valet parking, reserved banquet seating and an evening of networking with CEOs and local leaders, sponsored by McWaters, Inc. There will also be an open bar and light supper by Chef Scott Hall – a Cooking Channel regular – courtesy of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
The event will also feature pitches from the three Ignite! Ideas Contest finalists, and a live audience voting session will determine the winner of the $5000 prize, sponsored by Wells Fargo. Local entrepreneurs with an idea that can move the Midlands forward are encouraged to enter the Ignite! 2014 Ideas Contest by submitting a short, two-minute video detailing their concept. Videos can be very informal. Those interested can find more information and submit their videos at http://engenuitysc.com/ignite/ignite-ideas-contest.
Hosts include Steve Benjamin, Mayor of Columbia, and University of South Carolina President Dr. Harris Pastides, both Executive Committee Co-Chairs at EngenuitySC. ABC Columbia anchor Anderson Burns will again serve as emcee. Anchor sponsors for Ignite! 2014 are BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, Wells Fargo Bank and McWaters, Inc., the Midlands’ only dealer of the innovative Steelcase line of interior architecture and office solutions.
