Richland County and the City of Columbia Host Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Family Fit Event for the Lincoln Tunnel Greenway Project

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC – Richland County is excited to announce the grand opening of the Lincoln Tunnel Greenway for Richland citizens. This will be a new multi-use path to run, walk or bike for residents, which promotes healthier lifestyles and communities.

Richland County and the City of Columbia will host a ribbon cutting ceremony and Family Fit Walk, Run, Bike event where participants can walk, run, or bike from the Gadsden Street tunnel to Elmwood Avenue. The event will begin at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 13 at Finlay Park near the Finlay Park Stage on Taylor Street. Citizens are encouraged to attend this event.

The greenway, developed in partnership with Richland County, the City of Columbia and the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism (SCPRT), is a 14-foot wide multi-use asphalt path that travels from Taylor Street, at Finlay Park, to Elmwood Avenue. The Lincoln Tunnel Greenway features decorative lighting, areas of landscaping, bike racks, benches, car parking, decorative fencing, and signage along the greenway trail. The total project cost was more than $1.2 million.

“The County is so excited to finalize our first greenway project for our citizens and visitors to enjoy.  It will be a real asset to the community for years to come,” said Rob Perry, Richland County transportation director. “We’re thankful to our citizens and partners who made this possible, and look forward to completing more trails and sidewalks to better connect our community.”

Representatives from Richland County and the City of Columbia will participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony and Family Fit event.
