Lions Club hosts annual fishing event; fundraiser to grant a wish through Make-A-Wish South Carolina

April 8, 2025

Anglers from all over Greenville and Spartanburg Counties are invited to participate in the 6th annual Greer Centennial Lions bass fishing tournament on April 12, 2025. This year the tournament will raise money for Make-A-Wish South Carolina.

“The power of a wish starts with a caring community, and we are deeply grateful for the Greer Centennial Lions Club’s commitment to making a difference. Their partnership fuels hope and joy for children battling critical illnesses, proving that when we come together, we can change lives,” said Misty Farmer, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish South Carolina.

Make-A-Wish South Carolina is a nonprofit that creates life changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. While the organization serves all 46 counties, many of the wishes are granted in the Upstate with cancer being the top condition among children.

Childhood cancer is a service area of the Greer Centennial Lions Club and the club has committed to granting one which costs an average of $7,500.

“Wishes cannot happen without people who care, and we are especially thankful for the Upstate community’s unwavering support of this event. Because of them, more wish kids in Greer will experience the life-changing impact of a wish – bringing strength, resilience, and a renewed sense of hope when they need it most,” said Farmer.

The fishing tournament, which is open to the public and sponsored by Greer CPW, will give the fishing community a chance to win $1,000 for the biggest fish plus other top cash prizes. The all-day tournament will be held on the beautiful Lake Robinson in Greer.

“Each tournament has focused on a different service area related to the Lions Club and we have donated money toward vision, hunger, diabetes and environmental needs. When we learned there are 11 kids living in Greer waiting on a wish, it was an easy decision for us to support this worthwhile cause,” said Collier Smith, Tournament Coordinator.

Registration is now open and applications can be found at the Lake Robinson warden’s office, Greer CPW and various bait and tackle shops around the Upstate or online at www.greercpw.com/lakes-recreation Participants must have a fishing license through the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and a boating and fishing permit through Greer CPW.
