Literacy SC sets 2026 Executive Board Officers and new goals

January 20, 2026

Literacy SC, a statewide nonprofit hub for growing reading skills in all ages, has seated its Executive Board leadership for the 2026 term. The appointments come as the organization launches a new three-year strategic plan to expand its high-impact programs across the Palmetto state both in-person and virtually.

2026 Executive Officers:

  • Board Chair: Ms. Nitiki Satterwhite (Southern Mutual Church Insurance Company)
  • Vice Chair: Dr. Theresa Harrison (University of South Carolina)
  • Secretary: Ms. Suzanne Shire (Retired Educator)
  • Treasurer: Dr. Suzanne D. Miller (EssayFaire)

The 15-seat Board of Directors oversees the nonprofit’s culture and long-term financial health. Under the 2026-2028 roadmap, the leadership team will target capacity and consistency. As Literacy SC scales programs like its popular Turning Pages Adult Reading Program and drop-in Reading Labs, the quality of instruction will remain as strong in rural counties as it already is in the state capital.

“Our learners are folks eager to work and ready to lead, but they need foundational reading skills to get there,” said Lisa Cole, CEO of Literacy SC. “This board makes sure we have the backbone to meet growing demand across South Carolina without losing the personalized, local touch that actually changes lives.”

Literacy SC hosts multiple in-person programs in Richland, Lexington, Aiken, and Saluda counties via 27 partner sites. Virtual programs, such as Reading Begins Here, are available statewide. Their staff-led Spring term runs January 19 to May 23 for all small group programs.
