Live Deliciously: Harvest Week at Motor Supply
June 9, 2016
By Jillian Owens
Farming is hard.
I know this from my limited experience with backyard gardening, where I’ve had some successes, but more interesting failures. 4” watermelons, bizarrely misshapen eggplant, and squash plants that grew blossoms, but no squash come to mind.
I recently watched the terrible dud of a horror move that is The Witch. It’s set in 1630 New England. The audience is meant to be terrified of some unforeseen evil lurking in the woods.

*Spoiler alert* The villain is an evil talking goat. The goat doesn’t even talk until the last scene in the movie. Don’t be mad. I just spared you two of the most boring hours you could have experienced in your life.
Instead, I was terrified at the thought of how quickly I would have died in colonial times if I had to rely on farming for my food supply. You can live off a few pygmy watermelons and cherry tomatoes for only so long. I’m fairly certain my family would have turned on me in much the same way whatever-her-name’s family did in the film and I, too, would have ended up accepting a creepy talking goat’s offer to “live deliciously”.
I mean, a girl’s gotta eat.
Thankfully, this is not the case for our local farmers, who are being celebrated from June 7-12 at Motor Supply Company Bistro. The closest you’re going to get to a demonic talking goat is a tasty creamy chevre from Trail Ridge Farm & Dairy.
Motor Supply has always featured fresh, local and eclectic dishes on its ever-changing menu, but this signature event takes this standard to a hyper-local level. It’s all about local, sustainable food and the dedicated regional farmers who grow it.
Their menu features local produce, meats, and the best Harvest Week cocktail menu I’ve experienced to date.
A lover of fine libations, I was powerless to resist attending the Meet the Farmer Happy Hour kickoff event earlier this week.

From variations on standard tiki cocktails such as the Carolina Painkiller (featuring Monetta Peaches), to the Strawberry Sazerac (a cocktail for those more inclined to leisurely sip their beverage slowly), to the sweet & refreshing Blueberry Cobbler, Joshua Streetman has carefully walked the line between classic and innovative with these new creations.
Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?
If thou wouldst, don’t fret! You still have time to experience this event. Reservations can be made by calling (803) 256-6687 or by visiting www.motorsupplycobistro.com.
