Lizard’s Thicket Adds Custom Local Art to All 15 Restaurants
October 16, 2013COLUMBIA, SC – October 16, 2013 – Lizard’s Thicket, the 35-year-old, family-owned and operated restaurant specializing in traditional Southern fare with 15 locations in South Carolina, has added custom, metal sculpture art by Lana Garner to each of its restaurants.
Though it serves over 13,000 customers each day (and more on Sunday), Lizard’s Thicket regularly uses local producers and businesses such as Adluh Flour, WP Rawls collard greens, Senn Brothers Produce, The Butcher Shop and Taylor’s Poultry. The restaurant has furthered its commitment to using local products whenever possible with the addition of more local art pieces.
Lizard’s Thicket commissioned Garner to sculpt 15 unique pieces relevant to each Lizard’s Thicket location. For example, the Lizard’s Thicket Knox Abbott (501 Knox Abbott Dr., Cayce) location’s sculpture depicts Brookland-Cayce High School, and the Airport Lizard’s Thicket (2240 Airport Blvd., West Columbia) has a sculpture with an airplane symbolizing the restaurant’s proximity to the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. Garner worked with the Williams family to represent the surrounding community for every Lizard’s Thicket location to commemorate the family-owned restaurant’s 35th anniversary.
“These sculptures really represent what’s important to the Lizard’s Thicket community,” said Bobby Williams, Chairman of Lizard’s Thicket. “Though customers can always count on a great meal no matter which Lizard’s Thicket they stop into, each restaurant has its unique customers and identity. We’re proud that these pieces reflect that sense of community.”
In addition to these new pieces by Garner, Lizard’s Thicket also features original artwork by Jamie Blackburn, Ernest Lee, Harold Branham, Erica Hoyt, Jane Jackson and Jim Harrison, to name a few. Stained glass artist Bill Roberson also designed custom glass pieces with the Lizard’s Thicket logo for many of the restaurants. With Garner’s pieces added, Lizard’s Thicket continues its commitment to using local talent and products whenever possible.
