Lizard’s Thicket Renovating Popular Beltline Location

COLUMBIA, SC – Lizard’s Thicket, the 35-year-old, family-owned and operated restaurant specializing in traditional Southern fare with 15 locations in South Carolina, announces plans to close its 402 Beltline Blvd. location for several weeks beginning August 3, 2014 for renovations.
The Williams family, which owns and operates all Lizard’s Thicket restaurants, opened the Beltline location in 1982 as their third restaurant. The company purchased the building in 1996 and now has 35 employees and a private dining room at this popular location.
All Lizard’s Thickets have regular, frequent customers with long-running relationships with their favorite servers and staff members. The Beltline location, in particular, boasts a well-loved staff with servers like April White, who was recognized by the South Carolina Restaurant and Lodging Association and named Front of House Employee of the Year for 2014.
“We have so many long-time customers that love the Lizard’s Thicket Beltline location, and we want to update the restaurant as a thank you to them,” said Bobby Williams, Chairman of Lizard’s Thicket. “The renovations will reflect an updated look and feel that our newer locations have, but customers will instantly feel at home and of course, we’ll still serve the delicious traditional Southern cooking our customers know and love.”
Renovations will update the exterior and interior of the restaurant to look more like other newer Lizard’s Thicket buildings and include:
– Signature green metal roof and covered front porch.
– HardiPlank siding on East and West sides of the building.
– Convenient carryout parking spaces on the side of the building for easy in and out takeout access.
– Wood and glass front doors, which will replace the current commercial-style doors.
– Wood plank patterned floors will replace tile floors in the dining room.
– Painted sheetrock and bead-board paneling will replace the interior wallpaper-covered walls.
– Energy-efficient can lights.
– New tabletops will be installed and the booths and chairs will be recovered and refreshed.
Additionally, the popular counter and barstools will remain. All 35 of Lizard’s Thicket employees will remain and the company has given each employee the opportunity to work at any other Lizard’s Thicket while the Beltline location is closed for renovations.
Beltline Lizard’s Thicket customers are encouraged to try nearby locations at 7938 Garners Ferry Road and 3147 Forest Drive.
