Local Artists on Display at Columbia Metropolitan Airport

July 6, 2014

WEST COLUMBIA, SC – Continuing with our rotating arts program featuring local artists, we are pleased to announce the installation of two new art exhibits for July and August.

Kirkland Smith’s exhibit, “Re-Created”, is on display in the connector of the terminal which leads to the departure gates. Kirkland is a classical painter who began creating contemporary assemblages using post-consumer materials as an evocative way to drive home the message of the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
Through her work she challenges viewers to consider their consumer habits and has enjoyed working with children and adults in assemblage workshops. Kirkland is a resident artist at Vista Studios.

Dr. Linda Lake’s exhibit is on display in the main lobby of the terminal near the USO. Linda is a self-taught artist who uses an array of mediums, colors, and techniques including carving and pyroengraving. She creates one-of-a-kind distinctive art by combining traditional mediums in non-traditional ways. She has won diverse awards and has donated her art work to numerous causes. Linda is an artisan/instructor at Elegant Art Studio.

The Airport Arts Program is in partnership with the Cultural Council of Richland and Lexington Counties.
