Local residents honored at ‘Gifts of Aging’ celebration

October 28, 2014

CHARLESTON, SC – More than 20 individuals were honored at a Gifts of Aging celebration on Oct. 21. Organized by the South Carolina Aging in Place Coalition, the event was a way to recognize older adults who are examples of successfully aging in place here in the Charleston community. Gifts of Aging was part of National Aging in Place Week, which brings attention to the growing population of older adults, and events around the country help raise awareness of the aging in place movement and ability for seniors to remain in their chosen residence for as long as possible.

Honored at Gifts of Aging were: Janie Brown, John Dietz, Hugh A. Farris Sr., Genevieve Felder, Len Fries, Jim and Joyce Furlong, Charles Gilliam, Jan Harman, Shirley Hendrix, Linda and Bob Johnson, Thomasena Stokes Marshall, Jessie Mendez, Janice Meyer, Margaret Mims, Matthew “Tripp” Moye, Carroll O’Neal, Betty Reed, Anna Smith, Alice Streetman, Eilene Wilson, Dr. W. Curtis Worthington and Anthony “Tony” Wright.

The South Carolina Aging in Place Coalition is a nonprofit agency comprised of businesses and organizations that support people as they prepare to remain in their chosen residence – independently, comfortably and safely.
