Locally Epic adding more fun to the 2018 Duck Derby with hat contest

The Kentucky Derby is known for its hats, and Locally Epic wants the Greenville Duck Derby known for it as well, but with a twist.
Locally Epic is hosting the Greenville Duck Derby Hat Contest on Saturday, May 5, 2018 as part of the annual festival where more than 10,000 rubber ducks go over the Reedy River falls in downtown Greenville, said Chase Michaels, Locally Epic’s CEO.
So what is a Duck Derby Hat?
“At the Kentucky Derby, women are known for wearing very large, willowy hats,” he said. “We want to put a new spin on it for the Duck Derby. Women can wear any hat they want just as long as there is a duck motif to it.”
A panel of local celebrity judges will review the hats during the contest and winners will get various prizes. People can sign up for the contest here. However, the real winner will be the people watching the judging portion, Michaels said.
“Greenville is a place with a lot of talented people and we expect to see some creative entries,” he said. “There really are no limits to what people can come up with for the hats. We can’t wait to see what people come up with.”

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Greenville Evening, the annual Duck Derby sends 10,000 rubber ducks over the downtown waterfalls as a fundraising event. People sponsor a duck, and the people’s whose ducks make it over the falls and through a chute at the bottom can win prizes.
“This is event that families love to come to each year,” said Wendy Green, the event organizer for the Rotary Club of Greenville Evening. “We think that the Duck Derby Hat Contest is a great addition to it.”
