Lowcountry Food Bank receives annual TD Charitable Foundation Food Bank $45,000 grant

Grants will help feed thousands struggling with hunger this holiday season
Charleston, SC – The TD Charitable Foundation, the charitable giving arm of TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank®, announced today that it will provide $800,000 in grants to 36 food banks across the bank’s Maine to Florida footprint to help provide meals locally to families and individuals in need. The grants focus on food stability; healthy growth and development; and access to fresh food for underserved communities.
As one of the recipients, the Lowcountry Food Bank will receive $22,500 for Florence County and $22,500 for Georgetown and Marion Counties, totaling $45,000. The Lowcountry Food Bank will utilize the funding to provide food to fighting hunger among food-insecure residents in area. The Lowcountry Food Bank continues to develop targeted food assistance programs to alleviate hunger among children and seniors, two especially vulnerable populations. In 2016, the LCFB served more than 200,000 food-insecure children, seniors and adults.

The grants will help food banks stock shelves to support thousands of people who are experiencing a lack of or limited access to food during this holiday season.

The Lowcountry Food Bank serves the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina and distributed more than 26 million pounds of food in 2016, of which 25% was fresh produce. The Lowcountry Food Bank is a clearinghouse for donated food products that are distributed to a network of nearly 300 member agencies including soup kitchens, homeless shelters, after-school programs, low-income senior centers and emergency food pantries.
