Lowcountry Land Trust receives $1 million gift from Boeing for the Angel Oak Preserve

February 12, 2026

Donation supports education, interpretation, and expanded recreation opportunities around the iconic natural landmark

Lowcountry Land Trust, a nonprofit committed to preserving Lowcountry landscapes and waterways for current and future generations, announce a $1 million donation from The Boeing Company to support the creation of the Angel Oak Preserve. This immersive park and living museum will serve as an accessible, ambassador site for conservation, and Boeing’s gift marks a significant step toward completing the project and opening it to the public on the fastest possible timeline.

With this contribution to the Angel Oak Preserve, Boeing underscores its long-standing dedication to the region its teammates call home. The investment also signals strong corporate confidence in the Preserve’s vision and in the Land Trust’s ability to deliver a place that honors both the ecological importance of the land and the cultural stories tied to it.

“Boeing has been a longtime partner and supporter of Lowcountry Land Trust, and is now the largest corporate contributor of the Angel Oak Preserve project to date,” said Matt Williams, president and CEO of Lowcountry Land Trust. “Its initial donation of $100,000, followed by this $1 million investment, promotes our shared belief in balancing a rapidly growing region with community and landscape-scale conservation.”

The 44 acres that will become the Angel Oak Preserve earned national recognition in 2025 as a designated community forest, reflecting widespread praise for its education-focused design and public benefit. The Angel Oak itself has also been nominated for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, reinforcing its importance as both a cultural landmark and a living connection to the Lowcountry, state, and nation’s past. Boeing’s gift will directly support intentional efforts to interpret and share these stories, helping visitors better understand the land, the tree, and the communities connected to this place.

“For more than 100 years, Boeing has believed in putting down roots in the communities where our teammates live and work,” said Erin Fisher, senior manager of global engagement at The Boeing Company. “With more than 9,000 teammates across South Carolina, we are proud to support the future Angel Oak Preserve and help ensure its extraordinary plans become a permanent community resource that generations can enjoy.”

Boeing’s investment builds momentum for the project and strengthens a growing coalition of partners working to provide education and recreation opportunities to nearby communities, protect the health of one of the Lowcountry’s most iconic natural landmarks, and fundamentally enhance the visitor experience by incorporating features that highlight the layers of history, culture, and ecology within the land. The total cost to complete the Angel Oak Preserve is $16.5 million. To date, Lowcountry Land Trust has secured $6.9 million in funding.
