Lowcountry Rapid Transit online meeting available through Feb. 28

In late January, The Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments (BCDCOG)held a series of interactive, public Community Workshops in Charleston, North Charleston and Summerville to kick off the next phase for the Lowcountry Rapid Transit project and provide an opportunity for the public to weigh in on the vision for the system.
For those who missed the workshops, an online meeting is available through Feb. 28 and will be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week for comment and input. The meeting can be found online by visiting www.lowcountryrapidtransit.com.
“We want to engage with the community in ways that are convenient and interactive,” said Sharon Hollis, BCDCOG principal planner, and LCRT project lead. “LCRT represents an opportunity for modern transportation to transform our region.”
The online meetings include videos, maps, opportunities to comment and more.
ABOUT LOWCOUNTRY RAPID TRANSIT
The proposed 23-mile Lowcountry Rapid Transit project along Highway 52 (Rivers Avenue) and Highway 78would provide improved mobility among key regional corridors and a more direct connection for the traveling public. It will also promote the unification and reinvestment in existing communities. This first phase of project planning will examine and refine alignments by conducting detailed environmental studies, completing conceptual engineering design work, evaluating alternatives for station and terminal state and end-point locations, and soliciting input from regional stakeholders, the local community, and public agencies.
