Lower Richland High School Coach Inducted into SC Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame

COLUMBIA, SC – Coming in second best at anything has never been good enough for Lower Richland High School girls basketball coach Debbie Stroman. She has an impressive record any coach would envy: seven state championships, three undefeated seasons, 10 region titles and a 466-117 career record.
By anyone’s standards she is a winner. Her drive for excellence has won the respect of colleagues and athletic rivals. On March 20, Coach Stroman was inducted into the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame at its annual postseason banquet.
In 23 seasons as coach at Lower Richland, Stroman says the driving force behind her teams’ successes has been a desire for her players to be the best that they can. This is what she tells them: “You want to be considered the measuring stick for everything that you do. You want people to say they want their program to be like Lower Richland’s.”
She describes being inducted into the Hall of Fame as both overwhelming and wonderful. “Being honored for all those accomplishments in this magnitude is rewarding,” Stroman said. “I think about all those games, players and fans that have supported me and Lower Richland basketball and I am proud to be chosen for the Hall of Fame. This is one of those milestones in your career that sets you apart from others because getting an achievement like this is once in a lifetime.”
The district extends its congratulations to Coach Stroman, whose many other accomplishments include being named Richland One High School Coach of the Year five times.
