LR joins Koinonia of Columbia to host Earth Day event

April 25, 2018

Lenoir-Rhyne University’s Columbia Center and Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary partnered with Koinonia of Columbia on Friday, April 20, to host the second annual Earth Day event.

Community members gathered to participate in the event which included a local gardening project, educational programs focused on environmental awareness, and trash pickup throughout local communities.

Koinonia of Columbia provided materials for constructing eight raised garden beds, which are located on LR’s campus in Columbia and maintained by local volunteers and LR students, faculty, and staff. Families who are participating in Koinonia’s summer enrichment program will be the recipients of the fresh vegetables including kale, tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.

Koinonia of Columbia’s mission is to build partnerships within the Eau Claire community and to help local children and families support themselves through building of community gardens.
