LS3P announces strategic leadership changes

Architecture, interiors, and planning firm LS3P is announcing key leadership transitions effective May 1, 2019.

Vice President and Principal Marc Marchant, AIA, LEED AP has been named CEO-Elect; Executive Vice President and Principal George Temple, AIA, LEED AP has been named President | Chief Operating Officer; and Vice President and Principal Jeff Floyd, AIA, LEED AP will join the firm’s Board of Directors. Current Chairman|President|CEO Thompson Penney, FAIA will continue to serve as LS3P’s Chairman |CEO for a two-year transition period. Executive Vice President and Principal Katherine Peele, FAIA, LEED AP was recently named Chief Practice Officer; Vice President and Principal Chris Boney, AIA, LEED AP was recently named Chief Relationships Officer, and Principal Katie Robinson, CKM was named Marketing and Communications Officer.
Marchant joined LS3P in 1999 after receiving a Master of Architecture with a Concentration in Healthcare Design from Clemson University. His current roles include Charleston Office Leader and Healthcare Practice Leader, and he has served on LS3P’s Board of Directors since 2014. Marchant is a Fellow of Furman University’s Riley Institute and a Roper St. Francis Foundation Fellow. He is currently serving as a member of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Committee and PAC Board, is a Trustee of the Clemson Architectural Foundation, is a Commissioner of the Charleston County Historic Preservation Commission, and sits on the Program Investment Review Council for Trident United Way.
Temple is currently serving as Chief Operating Officer and will assume the additional responsibilities of President. Temple joined LS3P in 1999 after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University and serving as an officer and architect in the Air Force for seven years. His previous positions include VP of Technology, Charleston Office Leader, and EVP of Business. Through 20 years, Temple has built a team of IT professionals to deliver best-in-class technology for business and practice. Temple will continue to oversee the firm’s finance, technology, legal, and human resources team as well as other critical aspects of LS3P’s business infrastructure. He has served on LS3P’s Board of Directors since 2012.
Floyd currently serves as Charlotte Office Leader and spearheads the firm’s Office Practice Area. Floyd joined the firm in 1991 and is one of the most prolific designers of office buildings for corporate headquarters and operations centers in the Carolinas. His portfolio includes more than 57 buildings and four million square feet of office space at Ballantyne Corporate Park as well as other iconic high-profile corporate projects which have expanded the Charlotte skyline.
Thompson E. Penney, FAIA, has been serving as President | CEO of LS3P since 1989, and as Chairman of the Board since 2012. He believes these strategic governance changes will position the firm to capitalize on exciting opportunities in the industry and across the Southeast region in the coming years. “Our continuous evolution as a firm over the last 56 years has allowed us to grow and to build a foundation in diverse practice areas in a thoughtful and deliberate way,” Penney explains. “Marc Marchant has demonstrated visionary leadership and a consistent dedication to excellence at LS3P for over 20 years; as CEO-Elect, he will bring his significant skills to the task of maximizing opportunities and looking towards our next chapter. The strategic changes coincide with 56th anniversary of LS3P’s founding by Frank Lucas, FAIA, in Charleston on May 1, 1963.
