Magnolia accepting applications for internships to Parisian garden

January 15, 2018

Magnolia Plantation and Gardens is accepting applications for two eight-week horticulture internships at Bagatelle Park in Paris.

To be eligible, a student must be an American citizen enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year horticulture program at a college or university in the United States.

Magnolia sponsors the internship in conjunction with the New York- and Paris-based French Heritage Society with assistance from Alliance Francaise in Charleston.

February 5 is the deadline to apply. Send a cover letter, a 500-word essay stating your reason for applying, two letters of recommendation and a resume to Magnolia Plantation and Gardens, 3550 Ashley River Road, Charleston, S.C. 29414, to the attention of Herb Frazier.

Proficiency in French is required. Selection will be based on interviews with members of the Magnolia staff and Alliance Francaise.

Because students will be required to secure housing in Paris the French Heritage Society will offer a $2000 stipend. Magnolia will provide round-trip airfare to Paris.

Work at Bagatelle Park will cover a range of experiences from traditional to innovative French gardening techniques. Students will also be assigned to general planting, trimming and weeding.

Bagatelle is an 18th-century landscaped park and chateau with a Chinese-style pagoda, waterfalls and peacocks.
