Main Street District’s Yellow Shirt Ambassadors expand service area

July 12, 2023

Clean and safe measures are being expanded to the Elmwood Avenue corridor, starting July 1

The Main Street District, formerly known as City Center Partnership, announces the expansion of its clean and safe program on Elmwood Avenue. Previously, the ambassadors covered Elmwood Avenue on one side of the street from Assembly Street to Marion Street. With the help of additional funding from the City of Columbia, the Yellow Shirt Ambassadors will now cover both sides of Elmwood from Bull Street to Lincoln Street. Services began on July 1 and will continue from 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. seven days a week.

“We are excited to expand our clean and safe program to cover more surface area of Elmwood Avenue in an effort to help make one of the gateways to downtown more attractive and inviting,” says Matt Kennell, President & CEO of the Main Street District. “We also believe this expansion of services will help better connect the Main Street District to NOMA and the BullStreet District. We are very thankful to the City of Columbia for trusting our Yellow Shirt Ambassadors to do the job and for supporting the Main Street District.”

The Yellow Shirt Ambassadors have been operating within the Main Street District since 2002, providing cleaning services and public safety information. From removing litter and graffiti to maintaining contact with businesses and residents, and even shuttling people to their destination, the Yellow Shirt Ambassadors are here to help. They also remain in contact with CPD when needed. To get in touch with the Yellow Shirt Ambassadors, call their customer service line at 803-587-7831, or find them in their bright yellow shirts along the street.
