Main Street Laurens Board Announces New Dates for “Squealin’ on the Square”

October 16, 2024

The Main Street Laurens Board of Directors has announced new dates for the highly anticipated annual event, “Squealin’ on the Square.” Originally scheduled for earlier in the fall, the event was postponed due to Hurricane Helene, as City and County resources were redirected toward recovery efforts. The festival will now take place on Friday, November 8, and Saturday, November 9, 2024.

During this morning’s Board of Directors meeting, the decision to reschedule was made unanimously, following recommendations from the Squealin’ on the Square Committee and downtown merchants. Local officials were consulted to ensure that essential services, such as Emergency Services and Sanitation, would be available for the new dates.

“Squealin’ on the Square is a cornerstone event for our community,” said Craig Scharton, Main Street Laurens Director. “In light of the challenges we’ve faced with the storm, it’s more important than ever to come together and celebrate.”

To accommodate the new dates, barbecue vendors, volunteers, and musical acts were surveyed before the meeting. The overwhelming majority confirmed they would still be able to participate, ensuring the event will proceed with its full lineup.
