March 1 celebrated annually as Meyer Center Day in South Carolina
February 25, 2025The City of Greenville and the State of South Carolina officially proclaimed March 1 as Meyer Center Day in 2024 in honor of the Meyer Center for Special Children’s 70 years of empowering children with disabilities to reach their maximum potential through early education and intensive therapy services. Meyer Center Day will now be celebrated annually to recognize the organization’s lasting impact on the community.
Located at 1132 Rutherford Road, the Meyer Center has been a pillar of the Upstate community, providing comprehensive early intervention programs tailored to meet the needs of children with physical and developmental disabilities. Through its specialized curriculum and dedicated team of educators and therapists, the Meyer Center has transformed countless lives, helping children build the skills they need to thrive alongside their same-age peers and be included in their community.
Meyer Center Day serves as a testament to the impact the organization has had on families throughout the region, made possible by the unwavering support of our community. We are deeply grateful for our donors, volunteers, and advocates who help sustain our mission. The community is invited to participate in the Meyer Center’s celebratory annual giving campaign by visiting www.meyercenter.org/donate. For those looking to make a lasting impact, joining the 1954 Club with a monthly contribution of $19.54 helps sustain Meyer Center operations and ensures every child, regardless of ability, has access to comprehensive education and therapies. Additionally, the Meyer Center welcomes community members to tour the school and witness firsthand the incredible work being done to empower children with disabilities. “As a grandfather of a Meyer Center student, I have seen firsthand the transformative impact of the education and therapies provided here,” says Dave Gable, Meyer Center Board President. “Meyer Center Day is a celebration of the resilience, growth, and potential of every child who walks through our doors. This organization has been a beacon of hope for families, and I am honored to be a part of a mission that ensures that children with disabilities have every opportunity to thrive.”

About Meyer Center for Special Children
In 1954 Dr. Leslie Meyer founded the Meyer Center with a belief that every child, regardless of disabilities, could benefit from quality education and therapy services. Dr. Meyer’s vision carries through today, where students receive life-changing treatment through a curriculum focusing on social and emotional learning, daily living skills, music, dance, movement, group exercise, and field trips—improving their quality of life, and their families’ quality of life. A South Carolina Public Charter School for students ages three and up, the Meyer Center is the only place in Upstate South Carolina where young children with disabilities can receive all their special education and intensive therapies under one roof, allowing parents the flexibility to work or care for other family members. A place where children often make their first friends, learn to feed themselves and tie their own shoes, the Meyer Center celebrates the impact—both measurable and immeasurable—of 71 years of service to our state’s children with disabilities.
