March for Meals Lunch Box Campaign provides meals to seniors in need

March 16, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The March for Meals Lunch Box Campaign is in full swing and will help provide meals to seniors in need.

During the month of March, restaurants, churches, corporations and individuals will be selling paper lunch boxes for $1.00 (or any amount a donor wishes to give). The paper lunch boxes are symbolic of support of the issue of senior food insecurity in our community, and can also be purchased at the Senior Resources office (2817 Millwood Avenue Columbia, SC 29205). The proceeds will support Senior Resources’ Meals on Wheels and Congregate Meals programs.

There are many ways an organization can support this fundraising event. Some ideas include:

  • Place collection canisters in your place of business to sell paper lunch boxes through March 31
  • Have classes/groups compete to see who can sell the most lunch boxes and raise the most money
  • Designate one day in March as March for Meals Day and have a special collection that day
  • Allow a special dress code for everyone who participates that day.

The Lunch Box Fundraiser is held each March as part of the March for Meals campaign to raise funds to provide daily hot, nutritious meals to elderly, frail or handicapped adults in the Midlands, and to raise awareness about the issue of food instability faced by many seniors. The 2015 March for Meals campaign began with the March for Meals 5K on February 21, and continues with the March for Meals Lunch Box Campaign throughout the month of March.  Senior Resources’ March for Meals campaign was selected as the top fundraising event in the nation in 2005 by the Meals On Wheels Association of America when it raised more than $35,000, and is now a nationwide campaign.

If you, your business or your organization would like to play a part in the March for Meals Lunch Box Campaign, please contact Director of Development Debora Lloyd at [email protected] or 803-252-7734 x256.
