Marketing Motivators – Picturing your Ideal Clients

August 23, 2015

By Jerry Bellune

We need to picture our Ideal Prospects and Clients.
The ones we can and want to help and serve.
The ones who want and need what we have to offer.
Rev. Rick Warren did this to build a mega-church.
He drew a picture of who he wanted to serve.
He called him Saddleback Sam and his family.
His characteristics included:
• He’s well educated and likes his job.
• He likes where he lives.
• He’s skeptical of organized religion.
• His family puts a high priority on health and fitness.
• He prefers the casual and informal in his style of life.
• He’s a busy man and lives a bit above his income.
• He is not a churchgoer.
• He feels an unsatisfied need in his spiritual life.
Does any of this sound like the people you want to serve?

Picturing our Ideal Clients tells us who they are.
Without that, we spray the market with our messages.
We can waste time and money on those we don’t want.
The better we know them, the easier it is to attract them.
The easier it is to retain them for life.
The easier it is for them to become our advocates.
This identifies what our target market needs and wants.
This helps us to meet their needs better than anyone else..
This shapes our message: What they desire that we can offer.
It shapes how we can reach them.
Where they are most likely to see and respond to our offers.

We need real data and field experience.
Real data is gained through research.
Field experience is what we already know about them.
• What are their age ranges, gender and income?
• Where they do live and what are their concerns?
• What and who do they like and associate with?
• What churches, clubs, etc. do they belong to?
• What do they buy and how much are they willing to pay?

We will discuss this in detail Friday, August 28.
It will be at the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber.
Highly successful people understand and practice this.
There’s no reason you can’t practice them, too.
