Mashburn Construction completes multiple MUSC projects in Orangeburg

Mashburn Construction has successfully constructed three transformative projects for the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Orangeburg, S.C., underscoring the hospital’s continued investment in strengthening healthcare access and quality across rural communities.

At MUSC Health Orangeburg, Mashburn delivered a comprehensive, multi-wing renovation converting former pediatric spaces into new adult and adolescent behavioral health units. Designed by Array Architects, the 6,000-square-foot Empath Unit now features updated exam and intake areas, two spacious nurses’ stations, patient lounges, quiet rooms, and a complete overhaul of existing restrooms. The project required careful demolition and coordination within an active hospital, ensuring safety and minimizing disruption to critical equipment.

Within the MUSC Orangeburg Medical Arts Building, Mashburn is nearing completion on an interior upfit of the second floor in partnership with Lillibridge Healthcare Services. The project will transform three separate suites into modern, efficient spaces through reconfigured layouts, upgraded finishes, and improved building systems, all tailored to meet the needs of medical tenants. Seed Architecture out of Columbia led the design for this project.

Mashburn also partnered with MUHA and Stantec on the renovation of the hospital’s 2,500-square-foot Sterile Processing Department (SPD), a critical component of surgical operations. Working closely with project architect Josie Abrams, the team upgraded the sterilization infrastructure that ensures surgical tools are properly cleaned and prepared, supporting the safety and effectiveness of patient care throughout the facility.
