Master Minds: Start your own Master Mind
February 21, 2016By Jerry Bellune
What have churches and civic clubs in common?
They are part of something larger than themselves. These offer comfort, joy and a sense of belonging.
They also compound effort for good causes.
A group often does more than one alone can do.
Yet it’s more complex than that.
Being part of something offer us other benefits.
It is primal, too. We tend to be pack animals.
Some are lone wolves but they are a tiny minority.
What if you brought your key clients together?
The purpose for this would be to discuss:
• Their challenges.
What’s going wrong or hurting their bottom line?
How can they attract and retain loyal customers?
Together, all of you come up with solutions.
• Their opportunities.
Assess the value and risk of what they’re considering.
What has been the experience of the group.
How can the opportunity be made profitable?
You can profitably follow this model with your key clients by forming your own advisory group.
Above all, keep it exclusive.
We started our Mastermind groups four years ago.
It has been a great learning experience.
We found out that membership isn’t for everybody.
Our group worked best for business owners.
Managers did not think like owners.
They did not have enough skin in the game.
They didn’t see the value that owners did.
The managers quickly eliminated themselves.
Now only owners are admitted to our groups.
These are not leads or networking groups.
We do business with each other and make referrals.
But we consult and advise each other.
This is based on hard-won experience in the field.
We work ‘on’ our businesses, not just ‘in’ them.
