Mauldin Police Issue Scam Alert Targeting Upstate Residents

March 21, 2026

The Mauldin Police Department is warning residents to remain vigilant following reports of a group of traveling scammers operating in the Upstate and targeting homeowners with fraudulent home improvement services.

According to officials, the individuals—believed to be from outside the United States—are approaching residents and offering services such as house painting, repairs, and other home projects. However, police say these offers are not legitimate and are intended to scam homeowners out of money.

Authorities note that this group has circulated through the Greenville area for the past 10 to 20 years, often appearing during this time of year. In addition to fraudulent work, the group has also been linked to burglaries and other property-related crimes.

Residents are reminded that anyone performing work within the City of Mauldin is required to have a valid business license.

Police encourage the community to stay alert and cautious when approached with unsolicited offers for home services. If something seems suspicious or if you encounter individuals offering what you believe to be fraudulent services, contact the Mauldin Police Department at (864) 289-8900 ext. 3.

As spring brings an increase in home improvement activity, officials say awareness and caution are key to protecting yourself and your property.
