Mayor Steve Benjamin and the City Foods Cooperative Marketplace to host a Membership Drive Launch for National Cooperative Month (Press Conference)

In honor of National Cooperative Month, Mayor Steve Benjamin will host a press conference to announce the City Foods Cooperative Marketplace’s Launch Membership Drive on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Drew Wellness Center2101 Walker Solomon Way at 4 p.m.

During the press conference Mayor Steve Benjamin will introduce the steering committee and initial incorporators of the City Foods Cooperative Marketplace.  The incorporators will provide an update on the status of the cooperative and provide initial information on how to become an owner.

The Kick-Off Membership Drive will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at Drew Wellness Center 2101 Solomon Way from 4 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The food cooperative is an initiative led by Mayor Steve Benjamin designed to meet the community’s need for healthy food options after the closing of the Piggly Wiggly on W. Beltline Blvd in 2016.  The cooperative will allow its customers to be owners of the grocery store.  By using the cooperative model, the community will have a self-sustaining asset owned by the community when the project is completed.

The Membership is $150 for the cooperative. The cooperative will begin accepting pledges at the membership launch event on Friday, October 20, 2017.
